The Meaning of Home

Crushed Azaleas is a deeply personal and evocative memoir told through vivid, vignette-like scenes—fragments of a childhood lived across continents, cultures, and contradictions.

Born into an Indian diplomatic family, Amal Moulik grew up moving between Japan, England, Italy, and India—never long enough in one place to truly belong. Beneath the surface of privilege lay a quieter reality: loneliness, cultural displacement, illness, and the emotional complexities of family life.

A Childhood Across Worlds

A life lived between continents—where every new place brings wonder, and every departure leaves a quiet fracture behind.

Beauty in the Midst of Pain

Moments of music, nature, and human connection offer refuge in a childhood marked by loneliness and emotional distance.

A Universal Search for Home

At its heart, Crushed Azaleas asks a timeless question: Where do we truly belong?
